What Are Some Fun Cheap Things to Do in Tucson?

From having an all-day adventure at the museum to learning about native plants and animals, here are four answers to the question, "What is one fun, cheap thing to do in Tucson?"

  • Visit the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
  • Play Putt-Putt at Golf N' Stuff
  • Hike in the Saguaro National Park
  • Explore the Sonoran Desert

Visit the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

One fun and cheap thing to do in Tucson is to visit the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. It's a combination of a botanical garden, a natural history museum, and a zoo, all focused on the plants and animals of the Sonoran Desert.

You can see exhibits on everything from reptiles to birds to cacti, and learn about the unique ecosystem of this region. General admission is around $22 for adults, and there are discounts available for students, seniors, and military personnel. It's a great way to spend a day in the great outdoors and learn more about this fascinating part of the world.

Play Putt-Putt at Golf N' Stuff

As someone who spent a weekend trip in Tucson, I can say from experience that Golf 'n' Stuff is a fun and inexpensive way to spend the day. At $13.75 for a game of mini golf, you can be the putt-putt king or queen for an afternoon. Golf 'n' Stuff has other inexpensive activities such as batting cages, go-karts, bumper boats, and an arcade.

If you're spending time in Tucson, Golf 'n' Stuff is a fun time for all age groups.

Hike in the Saguaro National Park

Hiking in Saguaro National Park is an inexpensive and fun way to spend your time in Tucson. This park on the outskirts of Tucson is home to some of the world's largest and oldest saguaros. Admission to the park is $25 per vehicle, and there are several trails to choose from, ranging from peaceful nature walks to strenuous backcountry adventures. There are also several picnic areas and campsites for those who want to spend more time in the park.

Cactus Forest Trail is the easiest, 1.5-mile loop trail in the park, taking you through the heart of the park and providing magnificent views of the surrounding desert landscape and towering saguaros.

Manning Camp Trail is a challenging trail that leads to the top of Wasson Peak, the park's highest point. The trail is about 8 miles round-trip and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding deserts and mountains.

Explore the Sonoran Desert

Tucson, Arizona is full of exciting and affordable activities for people of all ages. Whether you're looking for an outdoor adventure or a place to relax at a local park, Tucson has something for everyone. However, if I had to choose just one fun, cheap thing to do in Tucson, I would definitely choose to explore the Sonoran Desert.

One of the most popular activities to do in Tucson (for a reason) is to explore the beautiful Sonoran Desert. There are plenty of hiking trails throughout the area, many of which are free. You can also take a tour of the desert to learn more about the native plants and wildlife of the area.

It Depends On What You’re Trying to Do

As someone who visited Tucson “just because,” I can say from experience that it was an underwhelming experience. My main beefs with Tucson were that it took forever to get from one side of the town to the other, there was only one freeway entrance, there was a lot of litter, and it was hot (go figure). That isn’t to say that it isn’t worth visiting. There are plenty of people who have personal and professional reasons to visit, and Tucson does provide a lot of value to large demographics. #best

A Resounding Yes!

I’ve been asked time and time again, is Tucson worth the visit? To which I answer with a yes! This city in the southern Arizona desert has so much to offer. When you first arrive in Tucson, you’ll be met with its unique flavor of culture that perfectly blends Native American and Mexican influences. From bustling farmers’ markets to authentic regional dishes, there’s something for everyone here. As an added bonus, there are plenty of places to grab a margarita or two if you’re feeling adventurous! Tucson also offers some incredible outdoor activities.

Whether it’s hiking up Mount Lemmon or spending the day at Sabino Canyon, there’s no shortage of ways to explore this beautiful part of the world. But perhaps my favorite thing about Tucson is its people – warm and welcoming locals who genuinely care about their community and strive each day to make it even better than before. It really speaks volumes when you can feel such a strong sense of connection between strangers on the street.
